Abstract

The expansion of electromagnetic waves utilization for many applications has increased the number of microwaves and radiofrequency sources in the environment. It gave rise to interest on biological effects generated by exposure to this kind of energy. Such effects are usually designated as thermal or non-thermal in nature and are reported to be able to induce structural and functional alterations in living organisms. The thermal ones are responsible for mostly of them. The main effects reported are thÓse induced in eyes, testicles and ili the nervous system. Therefore, there is a need to set protection standards to prevent injurious health effects.
