Abstract

Part of the forest on the slopes of the Serra do Mar is being degraded by atmospheric pollutants from the Petrochemical Industries in Cubatão, State of São Paulo. By means of field surveys the existence of plant species sensitive, tolerant and resistant to ali the pollutants was ascertained. The purpose of this study is to verify the tolerance limits of some native plant species subjected to the fumigation of ammonia (one of the main pollutants emitted by the local fertilizer industries), through the evaluation of the acute effect on their leaves.
