Abstract

Atmospheric pollution nearby a textil industry in Teresópolis, RJ, was assessed utilizing Lactuca sativa (lettuce), Daucus carota (carrot) and Brasica rapa (turnip). Growth reductions was observed in plants growing at different distances and altitudes from the pollution source. Plants cultivated at 50m and 90m far from the industry showed up to 90% of dry weight reduction and 88% fresh weight reduction. Necrosis and clorosis were observed in turnip and carrot leaves growing on the sample points dose to the emission source. Turnip, carrot and lettuce showed good qualities as bioindicators plants.
